Girls for Climate Action (G4CA) Membership is Now Open

Girls for Climate Action (G4CA) is a movement led by young women and girls pushing for climate action and climate justice across Africa, with a focus on the everyday realities facing young women, adolescent girls, and youth. Running since 2016, it's currently open for new individual and organizational members. Registration is rolling, no deadline to track. You join an ongoing community built around eco-feminist advocacy and movement building.

Key Details

Individual membership costs 5,000 UGX a year, about 2 USD. Organizational membership is 50,000 UGX a year. The fees go toward national and local advocacy work and keep the secretariat running.

Eligibility Requirements

You qualify as an individual if you're a climate activist under 35. Organizations qualify if they're youth-led, girl-led, or led by young women, same age cutoff. If you're not a young woman or girl yourself but want to support the work, you can join as an ally through the "HeforShe" category.

Age and identity get you in the door. What G4CA actually wants is people who show up: movement building, convenings, advocacy, campaigns, volunteering. Registering and vanishing won't get you much out of this.

What Members Receive

Members get advocacy materials and handbooks built by youth and young women on climate justice and eco-feminism. You can represent the movement at national, regional, and international convenings, and the movement will show up for your own events and campaigns in turn. There's also room for joint projects, shared proposals, and co-hosted events with other members in the network.

Application Process

1. Fill out the registration form with your email, name, age, gender, phone number, country, and location.
2. Choose individual or organization.
3. Submit the form and wait to hear back.
4. Once approved, pay the membership fee (5,000 UGX for individuals, 50,000 UGX for organizations).

Major Considerations

This isn't a funded program. You're paying in, a small amount, but real money, to support the cause. The form asks that you don't register twice, so check with the movement or an existing member first if you're unsure whether you or your organization already joined. Microsoft Forms also flags that the form owner hasn't posted a privacy statement, so skip anything sensitive beyond what's asked for.

Should You Apply?

Young women, girls, and youth-led organizations under 35 who care about climate justice and eco-feminist advocacy fit here, along with allies who want to pitch in rather than just watch. If you want funding or a quiet membership card to sit on, look elsewhere. This runs on people who show up.
