Quick Overview
The Women Environmental Programme (WEP), under the GIZ-led Global Programme on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (GP HMCCC) II, is seeking experienced mentors for its Women's Fellowship on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC).
This regional fellowship empowers young women leaders across the ECOWAS region to advance gender-responsive solutions to climate-induced human mobility. Mentors will guide fellows through a 6-month program (July to December 2026), providing technical guidance, monthly coaching, and support as fellows implement community-based pilot projects.
Key Details
- Deadline: 19 July 2026
- Location: Remote/hybrid, virtual + in-person orientation
- Fellowship duration: 6 months (July–December 2026)
- Compensation: Flight tickets for in-person orientation, honorarium for facilitating sessions, monthly data allowance
- Eligible countries: Nigeria, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, Togo, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau
Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must be at least 25 years old
- They should have a minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience (note: the "Who Should Apply" section separately mentions 10 years as ideal, so 5 years is the hard floor, but stronger applications will show more)
- The applicant must have expertise in one or more of: climate change policy and climate-induced migration, gender mainstreaming in environmental/migration/development policy, community resilience and grassroots advocacy, research/M&E related to climate or migration, or leadership development and mentorship
- The applicant must be proficient in English and/or French. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged
- Experience working within the ECOWAS region, with West African civil society, government, academia, or development partners is ideal
- Must be available and committed for the full fellowship period
- Must be willing to conduct approximately six mentoring sessions and support fellows' pilot projects
What It Covers
- Flight tickets to attend the in-person orientation and capacity-building workshop
- Honorarium for facilitating sessions during the orientation workshop
- Monthly data allowance to support virtual mentoring sessions
- Access to a regional Community of Practice and Alumni Network after the fellowship
Required Documents
Submitted as a single compiled file (Word or PDF):
- CV highlighting relevant experience in climate, migration, gender, development, research, or leadership
- Expression of Interest (max 400 words) covering: motivation to mentor, relevant thematic expertise, previous mentoring/coaching experience (if any), and preferred mentoring language
- Two professional references (names, positions, organizations, contact details)
Application Process
- Prepare your CV, 400-word Expression of Interest, and two professional references
- Compile into a single Word or PDF file
- Email to Fellowship.HMCCC@wepnigeria.net
- Use subject line format: "HMCCC Mentor Application – [Full Name] – [Country]" (e.g. "HMCCC Mentor Application – Grace Mensah – Ghana")
- Submit before 19 July 2026
Major Considerations
- This is a mentorship role and not a fellowship for direct beneficiaries, applicants should be seasoned professionals ready to guide others, not early-career individuals seeking their own development. The role carries real responsibility: roughly six mentoring sessions, co-facilitating training, and supporting fellows through actual pilot project implementation, not a passive advisory position.
- There's a slight inconsistency in the posting itself, one section states a minimum of 5 years' experience for eligibility, while another describes "ideal candidates" as having 10 years. Strong applicants likely fall closer to the 10-year mark, though 5 years appears to be the technical floor.
- Applicants should prioritize drafting the Expression of Interest first, since it's capped at 400 words and needs to clearly show mentoring readiness, not just subject expertise.
Should You Apply?
Strong fit for seasoned professionals (ideally 10+ years) with real expertise in climate policy, migration, gender mainstreaming, or leadership development, particularly those with ECOWAS regional experience and genuine interest in mentoring emerging women leaders. This role is not suitable for early-career professionals or those seeking to be fellowship participants themselves, this call is specifically for mentors.
